Introduction
thinkorswimFX is a powerful TOS's online web (browser-based) trading platform which gives you instant access to the foreign exchange market. thinkorswimFX maximizes your efficiency and opportunities. It is a flexible tool, always ready to assist you in reaching your trading objectives. To access thinkorswimFX user must have only an Internet browser and a TOS account.
thinkorswimFX allows its users to:

- Trade, making different types of orders;
- Receive news, quotes, get historical quote information.
How to trade Forex
Quotes, Quoteboard and Dashboard
On your Quoteboard you receive real time quotes.
You can use the Quoteboard to view real-time quotes, issue orders by selecting appropriate commands from the context-sensitive menu, which appears when right-clicking the line with the instruments you want to trade. If you click the corresponding button in the instrument line, you can issue Direct Deal tickets (DDL).

You can also switch to the Dashboard view to display instruments as separate items with larger fonts and buttons, but in this mode less trading information is available.
To get the information, missing on the Dashboard if compared with the Quoteboard, point the mouse to the icon.
To switch view from Quoteboard to Dashboard and back:

or button depending on the mode you are in.
How to manage instruments
The Quoteboard (Dashboard) can display up to 12 instruments at a time. You can add, remove and arrange the order of the instruments using the Choose Symbols dialog window.
To add instruments to Quoteboard / Dashboard
- Click
button.
- In the opened window type in part of symbol. The window will suggest various symbol options which match your text.

- Click on the symbol you wish to display and it will appear under the Display Symbols section.
- Click Submit button.
- The symbol will appear on the Quoteboard / Dashboard panel.
To delete instruments from Quoteboard
- Click
button.
- In the opened window click the red cross
next to the symbol you wish to remove.
- Click Submit button.
- The instrument will disappear from the Quoteboard / Dashboard panel.
Advanced Selection
Advanced selection makes it possible to choose required symbols using the tree of all available symbols:
- Click
button.
- In the opened window click on the Advanced Selection link.
Find the relevant symbol.

- Click the check box next to the symbol you wish to display or hide.
- The instrument will appear on the Quoteboard / Dashboard panel.
Note: Instruments appear from left to right by lines.
Once you have configured the symbol properties they are saved for your account. When you next time log into the thinkorswimFX, the same set of symbols will be automatically loaded.
How to issue a new order
To issue a new order:
- Click
tab. or Click button. or Select New Order... command from context-sensitive menu of the Quoteboard, which appears after a right-click on the line with the symbol you want to trade.
- Fill in all necessary fields in the New Order dialog window.

You can set the following parameters:
- Select the desired instrument.
- Determine the order type.
Instrument type is chosen by default. Note: When you issue a Market order the New order window becomes disabled until the order is accepted by the system. To issue a trailing order select Stop type, mark Trailing checkbox and set trail width in pips field. Note: Contingent orders are not OCO by default. To make them OCO you should mark OCO check-box in the option section of the window.
- Change order price if necessary.
- Set the number of lots in Lots field.
- If you want the orders to be submitted immediately after you click the corresponding button, mark the Single-Click Orders check-box. Otherwise the system will ask for confirmation before issuing your order.
Types of Orders
- Market
-
Such order will be executed, but price is not guaranteed.
- Stop
-
Execution is guaranteed if ask (buy stop) OR bid (sell stop) quote reaches the order price, depending on the direction of your stop order.
- Limit
-
Execution occurs if ask (limit buy) OR bid (limit sell) quote reaches the order price, depending on the direction of your limit order.
- OCO Pair
-
One Cancels Other. If there were two orders, then execution of one of them cancels the other.
- Parent and Contingent
-
Child stop or limit order which is issued simultaneously with the parent order of any type. This order begins to work as a standard stop or limit order only when the parent order is accepted.
How to edit working orders
You can edit and even cancel an order while its status is still Working. A working order has "W" letter in the Status column of the Orders panel.
You can configure the Orders panel. Click on the button at the right top corner of the panel and select the columns you wish to be presented. Click Submit button.
To edit an order:
- In the Orders panel right-click the working order you want to edit. Select Edit order... command from the context menu.

- The Edit order window appears.

- Make necessary changes to the order, and click the active (Buy or Sell) button to confirm.
To cancel an order:
- In the Orders window right-click the working order you want to cancel.
- Select Cancel order command from the context menu.
How to work with positions
To obtain an open position you have to create a new order. When your order is accepted it becomes an open position and appears in the Open Positions panel.
Open Positions list contains summary information about user open positions including symbols, operation types (buy or sell) and accounts.
You can configure the Open Position panel. Click on the button at the right top of the panel, and select the columns you wish to be presented. Click Submit button.
All listed P/L's are "marked to market" (based on the last price traded) in real-time.

To close a position using a Market Order
Reveal the context-sensitive menu by right-clicking on any item in the Open Positions panel and select Close@Mkt. command.
The Close@Mkt. creates a new order for the whole amount of the position, on which you have right-clicked, using the current quote of its symbol. Your P/L will be put on your balance account in two days. Before that it is called Unrealized P/L.
To protect a position with an OCO order ("One Cancels Other")
Reveal the context-sensitive menu by right-clicking on any item in the Open Positions panel and select Protect with OCO command.
To protect a position with a limit order
Reveal the context-sensitive menu by right-clicking on any item in the Open Positions panel and select Protect with Limit command.
How to create reports and monitor account status
Working with reports
Statement (report) is a record of the activity on your account. You can create reports of the following types:
- Detail Transaction report
- Customer Transaction Detail report
- Conversion Activity Detail report
- Account History report
- Session History report
- User activity report
- Customer Account Summary report
- Transaction report
To refresh, print, or save generated reports, click on the corresponding icons, located on the right of the Request Report panel.
Detail Transaction report
Detail Transaction report is the most detailed report, containing complete information on the transactions for a specified period.
To create a Detail Transaction report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Detail Transaction report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
This report contains five sections:
- Foreign Exchange Confirmations
- Foreign Exchange Settlements
- Foreign Exchange Open Positions
- Position Summary
- Account Value and Margin Summary
Customer Transaction Detail report
To create a Customer Transaction Detail report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Customer Transaction Detail report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
The report contains two sections:
- Open Positions
- Trading Activity Detail
Conversion Activity Detail report
To create a Conversion Activity Detail report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Conversion Activity Detail report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
Account History report
Account History report contains a list of all changes of client's account balances for the specified period.
To create an Account History report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Account History report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
Account History report contains two main sections:
- Daily Account Summaries
- Account Value and Margin Summary
Session History report
To create a Session History report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Session History report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
User activity report
To create User activity report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select an option from the drop-down list, located below the "Type of report" field.
- Select User activity report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
Customer Account Summary report
To create Customer Account Summary report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Customer Account Summary report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
Customer Account Summary report contains two main sections:
- Equity Summary
- Activity Summary
Transaction report
To create a Transaction report:
- Select Statements tab from the main menu. You will see the Request Report panel:

- Select Transaction report from the Type of report drop-down list.
- Select the desired account from the User account drop-down list, select "From" and "To" dates, and click Show report button.
Main Status Bar
Status bar shows your current account state info.
- Cash

Sum of the balance positions in account currency.
- UPL

Unrealized profit or loss.
- Floating P/L

Potential profit or loss if position is closed at present situation. It's approximate value of your P/L without taking convert prices into consideration.
- Equity

Available equity. Sum of client's actives available to deal.

The minimum amount of money provided to ensure against losses.

Risk Level indicator.
How to view system messages
You can view records of all system changes during the current online session in the Messages panel. To view system messages click Messages tab in the left lower corner of the main window.
