Home / Components / Charts

The Charts tab displays charts that plot the movement of indices, equities or options. Type a symbol into the symbol selection box and press the "GO" button to view a default "Line" chart for that symbol. An additional chart, displaying the volume for trading during the same interval as the line chart, will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

NOTE: Index symbols for the charts are different than the thinkpipes Market View, Trade or Quotes pages. Users must insert a "$" before an index symbol in order for the chart component to recognize the symbol (eg. $SPX for the S&P500, $OEX for the S&P100, or $NDX for the NASDAQ 100.) Users can also open the "Indices" in the Chart Shortcuts menu to select a symbol.

Users can view charts based on data from the current day all the way back 20 years. If 1 to 20 days is selected in the duration dialog box then the selection range will be 1 min to 20 hours in the Time Frame dialog menu. If 1 month or greater is chosen then the options will be D, W, M, Q, or Y (day, week, month, quarter, or year) in the Time Frame dialog menu. You can also customize a time interval by selecting Custom from either drop down menu.

Options

Log Scale measures vertical movement on a proportional basis which means that a given percentage movement is always represented by the same distance on the charts. Color Bars alternates the bar colors on the volume chart. Hide Studies removes the technical studies from the chart area. Hide Drawn Items hides all drawn items such as fibbonacci’s and trendlines. Hide Volume hides the volume graph. Expand Chart expands the chart to the next month (but obviously cannot plot any positions for that month.)
